It’s been a while since I’ve spoken food! Who doesn’t love a good food chat!
Laura Ashley The Tea Room in Coventry kindly invited me and a plus one to come along and try out their NEW vegan menu.
Well, straight up I’m not a vegan!
I do however suffer from IBS and other health issues which let’s be honest diary normally plays a big part in flare-ups.
I am branching out more to choose the vegan options as its healthier and will all round be better for me internally! A lot of people have the perception that vegan food is bland and flavourless, so what better way to test it out than at an afternoon tea full of yummy goodness!
Going for afternoon tea is seen as a treat with all the lovely scones, cakes, sandwiches so a healthier option? I’m all for that!
I took my lovely friend Ellie along who also isn’t vegan. When we arrived at the Chace hotel in Coventry and were pleasantly surprised by how pretty the building looked! To be honest I was pretty shocked! We have for years drove past and never realised what it looked like from the front and inside.
The décor in the Tea Room was absolutely stunning! The colours and all the pretty ornaments and large mirrors just beautiful. It was giving me such inspo for my own home and felt very luxurious!
When we sat down, we were offered Tea and coffee, and a glass of prosecco! We chose English Breakfast tea and it came out with dairy alternative milk (obviously). We both looked at each other a little apprehensively at the thought of tea without “normal” milk.
We were so surprised it was lush, far better than any tea I have made at home!
The prosecco came in its own mini glass bottle, which I thought was such a lovely touch and the glasses were just stunning!
For starters, they brought out these super cute mugs with tomato soup in! YUM, the perfect way to start!
Out came the main event! 3 tiers of yummy treats!
Banana & Walnut
Victoria sponge with coconut cream
Double chocolate cake
Coconut Cream & Blackcurrant Jam
Hummus and Roasted Vegetables
Tomato and Shallot Chutney
Cucumber Apple and dill
Avocado and lime Crostini
So, we started with the Sandwiches, my favourite being the Cucumber, Apple and dill!
Ellie loved the Hummus and Roasted Vegetable. They were all so well presented and tasted delish!
The scones were as good as a regular scone, the coconut cream was lush alongside the blackcurrant jam, the only thing I would say that made it different was that the texter wasn’t the same as cream, as was expected it not being cream!
The cakes were lush! Our favourites being the Victoria sponge, it was the best I think I have ever tried! So fluffy and perfect.
Everything about the afternoon was perfect from the service to the room and the food. This would make such a lovely gift for a friend or even for a hen do / baby shower!
I can’t wait to go back there again! Have you ever been to an afternoon tea before? Let me know in the comments below..
