The NEW Crash Bandicoot has to be one of the best realises for 2017!
This is one of the games of my childhood, I would spend hours back in the day on our large grey chipped PlayStation battling against the bosses and collecting Apples for lives.
My husband also was a huge fan and claimed to have completed them all!! Now he gets to show me just how!
We downloaded the game and I’m not going to lie, we have both been bashing it out in the evenings since!
One of the things we have really enjoyed is remembering all the hidden gems and tricks. Between us both we seem to have an amazing memory!
We were so surprised at how hard the games are! How we played them as kids we don’t know!!
If you haven’t played it before we highly recommended it! When you buy Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy You get all 3 Crash Bandicoot games to enjoy. You can either buy the disk or download straight onto your PS4.
We want to share with you all our little walkthrough of the games, things we remember from the old style that has changed in the new one. The Secret little hints and tricks we remember between us and how to collect all the gems!
The first thing we noticed is there’s no naughty dog intro anymore!!! We were a little sad! Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy it’s made by Activision we had hoped they would have added that in for reminiscing sake!
You can now play as COCO Bandicoot in all 3 games. Crash’s little sister is unlocked after the first boss on Crash Bandicoot 1 “Papu Papu” and Crash Bandicoot 2 boss “Ripper Roo” on Crash Bandicoot 3 she is already unlocked and you can switch between her and crash!
Cheat codes don’t work!!! All the old cheat codes we used to use to get extra lives, unlock portals or gems don’t work anymore!! I used to love having to tap in combinations like (Start, Triangle, X , X, square, O , X , L1, R2, Start) to get free stuff but there are none for this new Remastered version! Looks like we’re on our own!
The Crash Bandicoot games are hard!! Collecting lives are a must to get far! There are some of our tricks to saving up lives!
In Crash Bandicoot 1 We like to play the first game collect all apples and lives than save game and quit. Restart and play all over, this is a great way to build up lives slowly. You can get 5 from the very first level. It’s effective and a fun way of building them up.
In Crash Bandicoot 2 in the hub on the second floor is a cute polar bear, Luke remembered this!! You jump on the polar bears head continually and you get rewarded 10 lives. We think this is a onetime thing though!
In Crash Bandicoot 3, again we play the very first level a few times luckily, we found number 3 isn’t anywhere near as hard as number 1 & 2. Number 1 is defiantly the trickiest! Who else noticed that the wizard in the first level who shoots magic, when you killed him before he would lose his wizard gown and stand in his heart-shaped pants!!!! That doesn’t happen now! He just falls into his hat when killed. Also, you can run along the side of the walls on levels such as “Toad Finish” you can run through the whole level and not get touched by enemies!
We also feel the double jump in Crash Bandicoot 3 isn’t as smooth as it used to be! It feels awkward, could just be us though!
Coloured Gems are the key to unlocking all the secret paths and levels of the Crash Bandicoot games. You get –
Purple Crystals – when completed the level
Clear gems – collected all the boxes on the level including those in secret parts and from bonus rounds.
Relics – For getting a good time on the time trials. Different colours depending on your time.
Other coloured gems unlock secret paths and levels.
In Crash Bandicoot 1 its super simple you need to smash all the boxes and finish the level without losing a single life. Yes simple but hard!!
These levels are where you will find the gems
– Blue Gem – Toxic Waste
– Red Gem – Slippery Climb
– Green Gem – The Lost City
– Yellow Gem – The Lab
– Purple Gem – Lights Out
– Orange Gem – Generator Room
In Crash Bandicoot 2 collecting all the gems is more complicated but super fun!! The game is great and gives little hints while the level loads, something we didn’t get on the originals. We loved remembering the Easter eggs for this game!
One change we did notice is that the gems don’t spin anymore on the wall in Crash Bandicoot 2 like they used to.
Blue Gem – Turtle Woods – “be kind to the boxes” get through the whole level without breaking a box!
Red Gem – Snow Go – go on level air crash, before you go on the water ski you will see boxes in the water leading to a platform, jump on the boxes it will then take you to the secret portal. Use the portable and follow the secret path it will drop you back into snow Go where you will get the red gem.
Green Gem – Eel Deal – go through the game and you will come to a split in the path, on the right-hand side is a room full of Nitrogen carefully go around it (you do get a mask just before) to the end of the tunnel. It’s a fake wall and you can jump through it. Complete the secret path to get the green gem.
Yellow Gem – Plant Food – Rush through the game completing it before the timer runs out!
Purple Gem – Bee-having – go through the level, not long after you reach the 2nd Checkpoint you will see a wall of nitrogen steps on the right-hand side leading to nowhere… notice they’re not bouncing! They’re fake, climb the steps and it takes you to a secret part of the level. Complete to get the Purple Gem.
Now you have all the gems you can go back through the levels you were able to get 100% boxes on and get yourself the clear gems!
In Crash Bandicoot 3
Just like Crash Bandicoot 2, it’s the same way, having to do secret tasks to get the gems! Again, the game does give some hints while each level is loading.
Red Gem – Deep Trouble – at the end of the level hit the [ ! ] box and then backtrack to the dynamite, blow it up to access the secret path. Complete it to get the Red Gem
Blue Gem – Tomb Wader – Get through the game without dying this will give you the death route skull and crossbones lift to a secret part of the level. Complete this to get the Blue Gem.
Green Gem – Flaming Passion – Get through the game without dying this will give you the death route skull and crossbones lift to a secret part of the level. Complete this to get the Green Gem.
Yellow Gem – Hang Um High – Collect 10 relics from completing time trials from other levels. This unlocks the special level!
Purple Gem – High Time – Get through the game without dying this will give you the death route skull and crossbones lift to a secret part of the level this is located just after the bonus level. Complete this to get the Purple Gem.
Let me know if you’re enjoying the new Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy!
Look out for part two where I will be telling you how to unlock the secret levels, how to get unlimited lives & beat the bosses!!
